The estuary is a great place to play.

Whether boating, running, biking, paddling, or hiking, few things cultivate a sense of stewardship as quickly or as thoroughly as a love of outdoor recreation. Miles of bay-front trails and protected waters make the bay a great place for hiking, biking, kayaking, paddleboarding, diving, bird watching and more.

While Out Enjoying the Outdoors...

• Keep a respectful distance from wildlife when walking on the shore and boating. Use binoculars for observation.
• Don't allow your dog from chasing birds and wildlife.
• Make your boat pollution free. Use pump out stations.
• Clean boats where paint chips can not get into the bay.
• Pack it in, pack it out - be sure to take any trash with you and dispose of it properly.

Bay-Friendly Behaviors

• Conserve water; use low-flow faucets, shower heads and toilets.
• When landscaping, use native plants and plants that don't need a lot of irrigation or fertilizers.
• Subscribe to the MBNEP's free quarterly newsletter.
• Don't dump household pollutants like automobile oil, paint or household cleaners down drains. Remember, all storm drains eventually empty into the estuary or the ocean.
• Do your "dooty" by cleaning up after your pet in your yard and elsewhere.
• Learn more about the resources and ecosystem. The Morro Bay Natural History Museum, the Estuary Nature Center, and libraries are good places to start.
• Contribute toward conservation efforts. Preserving land and restoring habitat is costly. Select an organization working on estuary protection and make a donation.
• Volunteer your time. There are many ways people can contribute and many organizations are looking for help.
