All field trips require preregistration and will fill. Please call the Estuary Program offices at 772-3834 to register or be placed on waiting lists. Field trips depart from the Morro Bay Community Center unless otherwise noted.

Tour of Chorro Flats Wetland Restoration Project
Linda Chipping, Director, Coastal San Luis Resource Conservation District
Tour a successful wetland restoration project, completed in 1997. See pre-restoration photographs, learn about riparian restoration efforts including problems encountered and lessons learned over time.

Camp San Luis Obispo: A Tour of Conservation Efforts by CA Army National Guard

This tour begins at Camp SLO headquarters. En route to the Chorro Creek headwaters and La Primera Mine, learn about ongoing sustainability efforts at training areas and future training requirements on site, tour riparian fencing projects, rock check dams, oak mitigation efforts and noxious weed control while enjoying a discussion of Camp SLO’s watershed management approach and partnering efforts with CA Department of Fish and Game, the Estuary Program and the CA Conservation Corps. Participants will be driven in Conservation Corps van. Valid photo ID is required to enter the site.

Freshwater Invertebrates and Creek Habitat

Bugs tell the story of water quality in creeks like nothing else. Get into creeks to see how scientists collect dragonflies and other creek dwellers and learn why they are so important.

Hands-on Experience with Marine Science Researchers
Cal Poly Center for Coastal Marine Sciences
Join researchers from Cal Poly's Center for Coastal Marine Sciences at their research dock to examine the life that resides underwater in Morro  Bay and see first hand the data gathering stations. A Remote Operated Vehicle will allow you to see underwater without getting wet!

Estuary 101 - An On-Water Tour

Enjoy a naturalist-led tour on the Dos Osos through the Morro Bay Estuary. This is a great field trip for families
(children must be accompanied by a guardian). Be prepared for wind.

Estuary Ecology from Black Hill
Michael Multari, MBNEP Interim Director
Join Michael on the short, but steep, hike up Black Hill for panoramic views of the estuary and watershed. Learn about the ecology of the region as well as restoration and protection efforts both completed and underway.
