What is the MBNEP?
The Morro Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP) is not a government agency, but a collaborative organization that brings local citizens, local government, non-profits, agencies, and landowners together to protect and restore the physical, biological, economic, and recreational values of the Morro Bay Estuary.
The MBNEP is one of 28 National Estuary Programs around the country working to safeguard and improve the health of some of our nation’s most important coastal waters. The US Environmental Protection Agency provides financial and technical support to each National Estuary Program.
The program staff members work on a variety of projects including (but not limited to) public education, the Volunteer Monitoring Program, watershed protection and restoration and managing grant programs. The program relies heavily on collaborative efforts that include local stakeholders and partners.
