Estuary Program Takes on Invasive Species
Every year on March 10, restorationists from around the state convene in Sacramento for California Weed Awareness Day. They lobby to get more action and funding to help combat the onslaught of invasive species taking over California’s valuable resources. This year, a group of dedicated local restorationists marked this important day by strategizing to tackle the invasive species issue on the Central Coast. A workshop was held at the offices of the Morro Bay National Estuary Program to develop an Invasive Species Action Plan for the Morro Bay Watershed. What came out of that meeting was the beginnings of a network to help prevent, eliminate and control many of the worst pest species threatening our economy, environment, human health, and the Estuary itself. This will be a multi-year effort. Starting in June, you can track the progress of this important undertaking by visiting our website at www.mbnep.org.
