Life-Sized Sammy the Steelhead Game Unveiled
Sammy the Steelhead, our county mascot for environmental protection and water quality, is really getting underfoot these days.
A new life-sized version of the game “The Sammy Family’s Wet and Wild Journey” debuted in March at the Baywood Elementary School Art and Science Expo. The Los Osos Community Services District (LOCSD) is responsible for the creation of this 21' x 14' version of the game originally developed by the County of San Luis Obispo Stormwater Management Program. Funding was provided through a grant from the Estuary Program.
The game enhances natural resource education for young children and their families by illustrating the challenges steelhead trout can encounter on their journey to and from the ocean. As children travel through the game, often moving back and forth repeatedly, they learn about the importance of watershed protection and endangered species habitat.
Sammy Family's Wet and Wild Journey will be appearing at public events throughout the county..
