Bay Nutrient Monitoring

Duties and responsibilities: Collect data on salinity and temperature and collect samples for nutrient analysis via land. Conduct nutrient analysis using test kits.

Requirements: Must be able to hike to sites carrying equipment. Be able to properly calibrate and use a dissolved oxygen and salinity meter. Complete data sheets thoroughly and legibly, completing all required fields.

Training: Initial training will be from shadowing a trained volunteer in the field and/or training by VMP staff. Any follow-up questions can be answered by VMP staff or fellow volunteers.

Time required: Sample collection should be scheduled for an outgoing tide with enough tidal height for safe site access. Effort typically requires two to three hours per month.

Commitment required: Upon completion of training, we ask for a minimum three-month commitment. At the end of that time period, you can assess whether you would like to continue with the program.
