Bay Dissolved Oxygen (“Dawn Patrol”) Monitoring

Duties and responsibilities: Travel via kayak to pre-determined sites to collect data on dissolved oxygen, salinity and temperature in the pre-dawn hours.

Requirements: Must be an experienced kayaker. Be able to properly calibrate and use a dissolved oxygen and salinity meter. Complete data sheets thoroughly and legibly, completing all required fields.

Training: Initial training will be from shadowing a trained volunteer in the field and/or training by VMP staff. Any follow-up questions can be answered by VMP staff or fellow volunteers.

Time required: Sample collection should be scheduled for an outgoing tide with enough tidal height for safe site access via kayak. Effort typically requires two to three hours per month.

Commitment required: Upon completion of training, we ask for a minimum three-month commitment. At the end of that time period, you can assess whether you would like to continue with the program.
