First Flush Monitoring
Duties and responsibilities: Monitor four sites within the first hour of rainfall of the first storm of the fall. Collect samples at designated sites in either Los Osos or Morro Bay. Return samples to NEP office for delivery to laboratories for analysis.
Qualifications: Be able to collect samples at sites with difficult access in the pouring rain. Monitoring may occur at night. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Training: Attend an initial training session. Any follow-up questions can be answered by VMP staff.
Time required: Will be responsible for four sites. Sample collection requires approximately 15 minutes per site (including drive time). Must be available on-call in proximity to the Los Osos or Morro Bay areas during times of potential storms.
Commitment required: Upon completion of training, we ask each volunteer to sign up to be on-call for a minimum of one week throughout the expected time period of the first major storm (typically from mid-October through late November).
