Stream Profiling

Duties and responsibilities: Use basic surveying techniques to collect data to determine the cross-sectional profile at set transects. Identify vegetation and canopy type along transect. Collect basic data on streambed characteristics.

Requirements: Be able to walk to sites, which sometimes require bushwacking or climbing barbed wire fences. Complete data sheets thoroughly and legibly, completing all required fields. Exposure to poison oak is possible at some sites.

Training: Training conducted on-site with VMP staff. You will be trained to use basic surveying equipment including a tripod, level and stadia rod to collect measurements along a pre-determined transect. Program staff are present for all stream profiling.

Time required: Each site requires approximately 4 hours. Sites vary throughout the Morro Bay watershed. All work is done in dry season (summer and early fall).

Commitment required: Upon completion of training, we ask for participation in a minimum of three sites.
