Pennington fish ladder after, Morro Bay National Estuary Program
A project by Trout Unlimited, with support from the Estuary Program, the California Conservation Corps, and the landowner, the SLO County Office of Education, removed this migration barrier in 2018. The aging fish ladder was replaced with a roughened ramp, which is a gradual incline in the creek that is designed to remain passable to fish during low flow conditions. This opens up access to miles of high quality steelhead habitat in upper Pennington Creek.
