Morro Bay experienced a significant loss of eelgrass between 2007 and 2017. Acreage of eelgrass (represented in yellow) declined from 344 acres in 2007 to only 13 acres in 2017. Between 2017 and 2023, eelgrass rebounded, with the most recent map indicating approximately 750 acres.
